SAFETY IN TANZANIA

Tanzania ranks among Africa's safest countries for both residents and visitors. Tanzanians are very peaceful and polite people, both towards each other and towards tourists. These characteristics are essential parts of our culture and even language. The reasons for crime often lie in poverty. It is therefore advisable:

• to be vigilant in unfamiliar places, especially after dark, as theft or robbery may occasionally occur.
• to arrange transfers in advance or use registered taxis and taxi apps (e.g. Bolt).

• to always keep your valuables safe.
• to trust your common sense.
• to always treat others the way you would like to be treated yourself.

HEALTH IN TANZANIA

• There is a certain risk of malaria in Tanzania. Please consult your doctor for recommendations before traveling.
• No cases of yellow fever have been detected in Tanzania for years. The WHO classifies the risk as extremely low and no longer recommends yellow fever vaccination for travelers to Tanzania. The vaccination is only mandatory if you are traveling from a yellow fever risk area.

• On Kilimanjaro you could get altitude sickness. Please consult your doctor before your trip.
• We strongly recommend that your routine vaccinations, including measles, mumps, rubella, diphtheria, tetanus, whooping cough and varicella (chickenpox), are up to date.
• To prevent digestive problems, choose cooked foods whenever possible. Wash fruits and vegetables carefully before eating. Don't drink tap water. If you have a sensitive stomach, use drinking water to brush your teeth.

• Traffic accidents are not uncommon. Especially Motorcycle taxis (“boda bodas”) are often involved in serious accidents. If you still want to use them, make sure to wear a helmet.
• In larger cities, health care for tourists in Tanzania is of a reasonable standard. It is strongly recommended that you purchase comprehensive travel insurance.

Safaris are very safe. Always follow your guide's instructions, follow the park rules and never leave your vehicle outside the designated areas during your safari. Always keep a safe distance from the animals and do not provoke any reactions from them.
